This shark has a distinctive appearance of its pink color and a long flat snout, with very prominent jaws containing prominent, nail-like teeth. Mature individuals are usually 3-4 m (10-13 ft) in length, but may grow larger. These sharks are found on high continental slopes, sinking canyons, and seamounts worldwide at depths greater than 100 m (330 ft), with adults at greater depths than juveniles.

The various anatomical characteristics of the goblin shark indicate that it is lethargic and inactive, including its weak body and small fins. This shark hunts bony bony, cephalopods, and crustaceans near the sea floor and in the middle of the water column. Lorenzini's lamps cover the shark's long snout, enabling it to sense the tiny electric fields produced by nearby prey, which it hunts by rapidly extending its jaw. Small numbers of goblin sharks are inadvertently captured by deep water fisheries. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has determined the goblin shark, despite its rarity, as not endangered, based on its wide spread and low catch rate.
